The island Topazos, now known as Zabargad and St John's Island in the Egyptian Red Sea used to be mined for the yellow variety of Topaz but today, the yellow topaz, known as the Imperial Topaz is found is Brazil. Most of the other commercial productions are found from Nigeria, India, Sri Lanka, Russia and Burma.
The blue coloured Topaz has been rated 8 on Mohs scale of hardness which makes it an outstanding gemstone for daily use.
It is a balancing and calming stone that balances emotions, releases tension, and can bring joy. Topaz is also believed to bring success and good fortune, and synchronicity. It is also used for protection, particularly protection from the evil eye and greed.
The Topaz is the birthstone for the month of December, and is given in celebration of the 4th and 19th anniversaries of marriage, needless to say Topaz is a symbol of love and affection.
