Women's Day is held annually on 8th March to commemorate the movement for women's rights and to celebrate women's achievements past and present from all over the world.
We would like to celebrate three women past, present and future that we believe deserve to be mentioned today.
01. Kalpana Chawla
She became the first Indian woman in space. The first time Kalpana Chawla went into space on a space shuttle was in 1997 as a mission specialist and a primary robotic arm operator. In 2003, Chawla was one of the seven crew members who died in the Space Shuttle Columbia disaster when the craft disintegrated during its re-entry into the Earth's atmosphere. Chawla was posthumously awarded the Congressional Space Medal of Honour, and several streets, universities, and institutions have been named in her honour. After the disaster, Space Shuttle flight operations were suspended for more than two years, he station relied entirely on the Russian Roscosmos State Corporation for resupply for 29 months until Shuttle flights resumed with STS-114 and 41 months for crew rotation.
02. Sheryl Sandberg
A true pioneer of women in the workplace and in life 'leaning in'. Self professed feminist Sheryl, makes it clear we all want to be our idea of superwoman but hurdles can come our way and it's about how we deal with them; showing up not shrivelling up that makes for a smarter woman. "Work smarter not harder" Sheryl is heard saying, the importance to not lower our expectations and to take advantage of professional and personal opportunities that come our way is key.
We are the women of the future. It is important we invest in ourselves. It is important we take the time to recognise our success, learn from areas we could have improved on and to rejuvenate to be able to put our best foot forward for anything that comes our way. Let's celebrate each other other, let's build other women up, don't berate yourself, just focus on building the best you to create great change around immediately and on a wider scale.
We would like to celebrate everyone of you out there too, we all have great achievements in our own lives small or big, recognised or not they deserve to be celebrated. Treat yourself or commemorate a wonderful woman in your life with a special Women's Day jewellery gift.
